Martens twice dislocated his shoulder against Gloucester |
Sale scrum-half Sililo Martens will miss the rest of the season because of a serious shoulder injury. He twice dislocated his shoulder in the win against Gloucester 10 days ago and needs a full shoulder reconstruction.
The Tongan joins a list of long-term absentees which includes Charlie Hodgson, Andrew Sheridan, Jason White, Lee Thomas and Nathan Bonner-Evans.
Sale's head of physical preparation Nick Johnston said Martens "will be out of action for 16-18 weeks".
Johnston added: "Lilo injured his shoulder against Gloucester in a collision. The shoulder was dislocated twice in the game but Lilo bravely played on."
Bonner Evans was injured against Calvisano on Saturday.
Johnston said: "Nathan will undergo a full knee reconstruction within the next fortnight.
"It's a similar injury to the one that Charlie Hodgson sustained. Nathan will start his rehab immediately after his operation but will be out of action for six months."
