Sale gained a bonus-point victory over Calvisano to keep their hopes of Heineken Cup qualification alive at the Centro Sportivo San Michele.

But bottom of the table Calvisano made the injury-ravaged English champions work hard for the five points.

Tries from Oriol Ripol, Chris Mayor and Ben Foden - plus Richard Wigglesworth's kicks - put Sale 24-3 up at half-time.

Calvisano restricted Sale to one score after the break, and home prop Lorenzo Cittadini scored a deserved late try.

The home team's efforts were assisted by a 64th-minute yellow card given to Sale substitute Andy Titterrell.
