Morgan celebrates his try in Wales' 2005 Grand Slam win over Ireland |
Wales' 2005 Grand Slam winning full-back Kevin Morgan admits he may have to quit at the end of the season. Morgan's contract at the Newport Gwent Dragons ends this month and he is leaving after an injury-ravaged season. The 32-year-old hopes to become a strength and conditioning coach when his playing days are over. "I've just been fortunate enough to complete a masters in physiology so it might happen a bit sooner than I would have liked," said Morgan. "I don't really know yet, to be honest [what I'll be doing next season]. "I'm 32 so some people might say I'm a bit long in the tooth now. "I would like to keep on playing, but unfortunately I've missed most of the season due to injury, again. "And when you're injured you're out of sight, out of mind, they say, so it's difficult to attract clubs when you're not playing. "As of this moment I'm not with the Dragons next season. I've got a few options available. | 606: DEBATE |
"I've always wanted to go into a strength and conditioning role after rugby.... I've applied for a couple of strength and conditioning jobs so we'll wait and see. "It's up in the air at the moment. I'll probably know more in the next two or three weeks." The Dragons have so far refused to comment on Morgan's impending departure. Morgan, capped 48 times by Wales, joined the Dragons from the disbanded Celtic Warriors in 2004 and signed a two-year contract extension in 2006. Morgan, who captained the Dragons in 2006-07, was a try scorer as Wales won their first Grand Slam in 27 years with victory over Ireland in 2005, but has not been capped since 2007. Morgan is regarded as one of the most talented full-backs on the circuit, but his career has been plagued injuries. A shoulder dislocation hit his early career, and at the Dragons he has suffered with a major foot injury and, more recently, a ruptured Achilles tendon. Meanwhile, Scotland A lock Andrew Hall is expected to leave the Dragons at the end of the season. "You are only allowed a certain number of non-Welsh players and the Dragons' quota has now been filled which means me missing out, so it's out of my control," Hall, 29, told the South Wales Argus.
