Kevin Morgan is unlikely to play again until Christmas time |
Wales full-back Kevin Morgan has confirmed he will be out for at least four months after suffering a serious ankle injury. The 31-year-old Dragons star ruptured his Achilles tendon whilst training at the weekend. He is now recovering from an operation on Monday to repair the damage. Morgan, who has won 48 Wales caps, said all he could do now was: "wait and see what happens". He is one of a number of Wales players out through injury. Morgan, who has just one year left on his contract with the Dragons, has suffered a series of major knee and ankle injuries which have blighted his career. He last played for Wales against Japan in the 2007 Rugby World Cup but has not featured since Warren Gatland took over as head coach. | 606: DEBATE |
Morgan would have been keen to flight for a place in the Wales squad for the autumn internationals but those hopes have been dashed by his latest injury. Speaking to BBC Wales Sport Morgan said: "I'm hoping I'll just be out for four months. "I've got a cast on at the moment and then it'll be a boot after that. Then it is just a case of wait and see." Dan Martin, the Dragons physio, said the the focus now would be on getting Morgan fit as soon as possible. "Kevin will undergo an intensive rehabilitation programme yet will likely not return until December 2008," Martin said. There is better news for Morgan's Wales team-mate Gavin Henson, although the utility back will still miss the start of the season. Ospreys elite performance director Andrew Hore said that although Henson remains in plaster after ankle surgery, he has been able to continue conditioning work on his upper body. The indications are that Henson could return to action at the tail end of September, which could see him back in the groove for the start of the Ospreys' Heineken Cup campaign on the weekend of 10-12 October.
