Sale Sharks have appointed former Wales international Byron Hayward as kicking, conditioning and strategy coach.

The 40-year-old moves from Magners League outfit Newport Gwent Dragons to join up with former team-mate, and Sharks head coach, Kingsley Jones.

"I know Byron very well after playing with him for Ebbw Vale, Gloucester and Wales," Jones told the club website.

"He will bring a lot to this club and he is someone I know and trust which will be vital."

Jones added: "He coached the Wales under-19s to a Grand Slam a couple of years ago plus he's also coached the Wales under-20s side and he looks after the Wales Sevens attack.

"He can look after kicking, skills, and conditioning plus he can also take match-day warm-ups. Just as importantly, he's a rugby man through and through.

"Byron's also a former Wales light-middleweight champion and he ran last month's London Marathon in four hours.

"I really do believe he'll bring an awful lot with him and, in terms of someone like Nick MacLeod and his kicking game, I think Nick will benefit massively from working with Byron."
