Jeremy Staunton demands more ruthless Leicester Tigers

We have probably been guilty of playing too much in our own half

Fly-half Jeremy Staunton says Leicester Tigers must be more clinical when they create try-scoring opportunities.

Tigers top the Premiership but have often relied on the boot of Staunton or Toby Flood to kick them to victory.

Staunton told BBC Radio Leicester: "We are creating chances but are not taking them as much as we would like.

"It's all about taking your chances. You might only get two or three in a game and if you don't take them, it can become a dogfight."

Staunton, who moved to Welford Road from Wasps in July 2009, added: "We need to execute a bit better and cut out the mistakes.

"We have probably been guilty of playing too much in our own half. We have started games quite well and probably haven't finished off the moves."

Tigers host second-placed Saracens on Saturday, looking to stretch their five-point lead.

But Staunton warned that the boot may well dominate and the game is unlikely to be one for the purists.

"It will be two good teams going at each other," he added.

"They will kick a lot of ball - particularly in their own half - and will chase hard so we need to be effective in that area and we need to win the kicking battle.

"We would like to score a few more tries but you have to play in the right areas."
