Leeds coaching can bring out my best - Lachlan Mackay
Mackay played Heineken Cup rugby at Brive
Australian international signing Lachlan MacKay believes he can produce his best ever rugby at Leeds Carnegie.
The 27-year-old has moved to Leeds on a two-year deal after spending the past two seasons at Brive.
Mackay told BBC Radio Leeds: "I want to prove I can put my best foot forward and that my skills and body are still up to it all.
"I really feel that with the structures in place at Leeds I can bring out my best ever rugby here."
MacKay, who can play at fly-half or centre, suffered two serious injuries in his early career, following his debut for Australia.
He said those difficult times made him appreciate the game more and helped him kick on at Brive and now Leeds.
"I feel more hungry for the game after those problems and more determined to do well.
"I've had two good years at Brive and am now very excited to push on for Leeds in the Premiership.
"The body is really good now and the training over the last two weeks has made me think my body is the best it has been for a while.
"As you get older you gain a wiser head and start to realise that the end might be around the corner, so you start to dedicate yourself to training even more, and work harder off the field at the things you need to keep sharp.
"I'm enjoying being part of it all and I'm really excited. I'm determined to put in my best efforts on the field for Leeds and I'm very excited to be involved in what I think will be a very strong squad."
Leeds have targeted a top six finish for their second season in the Premiership and Mackay believes they have the right blend within their squad to achieve that goal.
"The signings the club have made are going to add the depth and experience already in the squad.
"I think there is an exciting bunch of boys within that squad at the moment. There are a good few young players coming through, mixed with some old heads that can keep us on track and keep the focus.
"The plans are in place and the vision that Andy Key [director of rugby] and Neil Back [head coach] have for Leeds moving forward means I can see why we can't start pushing for the top of the table this season and aim for a Heineken Cup spot."
