Director of rugby Andy Key has confirmed that Leeds Carnegie are in talks with scrum-half Warren Fury and fly-half Lachlan Mackay.
Wales' Fury is a free agent after being released by Wasps at the end of last season, while Australian Mackay has been at Brive for the last two years.
Key told BBC Radio Leeds: "They are players we are talking to and are keen to get their signature."
"We cannot confirm their signings yet but we are discussing deals."
As expected, Key has also confirmed that the Yorkshire club will not be signing Warrington Wolves full-back Ritchie Mathers.
"We certainly spoke to Ritchie and his agent, but unfortunately on this occasion Ritchie has decided to stay in rugby league.
"That is a disappointment for us, but we can understand his reasons and clearly we wish him all the best.
"Away from that we have been strengthening the squad well over this summer and we hope to announce two or three more signings within the next three or four days.
"We are waiting on a few players to gain visas but I am confident on those. Backy [head coach Neil Back] and myself have been extremely pleased with the guys we have been able to bring in so far."
Leeds hope to have Hendre Fourie in their team for their Premiership opener at home to Bath.
The flanker is recovering following ankle surgery, following England's tour of Australia.
"All the signs are good. He is back on his feet, although he has a medical boot on his foot and will have that on for three to four weeks," explained Key.
"The surgeon says he should be back doing main things within six weeks, so that should mean he will be ready for the first game of the season."
