England hunting London hat-trick

England will be looking to make it a hat-trick of home wins at this weekend's London Sevens at Twickenham.

Mike Friday's team, who are the second seeds, have been drawn with Samoa, France and Georgia and will play their opening game on 4 June at 1142 BST.

The squad includes Newcastle centre Mathew Tait, who made his full England debut against Wales in the Six Nations.

"We have an extremely tough pool and we know that we will have to be at the top of our game," said Friday.

"France beat us in the World Cup, Georgia are extremely physical and then we have a big match against Samoa.

"The great thing about London is that we have home support and would ask everyone to cheer us on - it really does help the players."

New Zealand, who lead England in the overall standings by 28 points, are top seeds while Fiji are seeded third.

"Mathematically we could still catch the All Blacks if we won the remaining two tournaments," said Friday.

"Sevens makes a great spectator sport with 16 different nations playing across two days and the unique party atmosphere that goes alongside the seven-a-side version of the game.

"I would hope that as many people as possible will come to Twickenham and perhaps try watching sevens for the first time and see what an entertaining and exciting sport it is."

England won the opening leg of the International Board Sevens in Dubai but have been left in New Zealand's wake as the Kiwis won four straight tournaments.

England squad: S Amor (capt, Gloucester), G Appleford (London Irish), J Bailey (Gloucester), P Dowson (Newcastle), B Gollings (Sunnybank, Australia), R Haughton (Saracens), D Hipkiss (Leicester), W Matthews (Gloucester), P Richards (Wasps), A Roques (London Irish), M Tait (Newcastle), R Thirlby (Penzance & Newlyn).
