Fiji have been crowned World Cup Sevens champions after beating New Zealand 29-19 in the final in Hong Kong.

Fiji's powerful running proved too much for the holders, with Waisale Serevi scoring the try of the tournament as his side went over four times.

Jone Daunivucu, Semisi Naevo and Sireli Bobo also touched down for Fiji, while Kiwi responded with tries from Josh Blackie, Isaia Toeava and Rudi Wulf.

Fiji had beaten England 24-19 after extra-time to reach the final.

England were attempting to become the first country to hold both the sevens and 15-a-side World Cup titles.

They advanced to the semi-finals with a comfortable 36-0 win over Scotland but could not quite match the Fijians, who were champions in 1997.

Holders New Zealand reached the final with a 24-20 win over rivals Australia.
