England missed out on success at the IRB Sevens in New Zealand after losing in the quarter-finals. After a disappointing 24-19 defeat to Fiji in the last eight, Mike Friday's side were also edged out 19-17 by Scotland in the Shield semi-finals.
New Zealand went on to win the main competition, beating Argentina 31-7 to build up an eight-point lead over Fiji at the top of the standings.
Australia won the Shield final with a crushing 32-0 defeat of Scotland.
