New caps for England Sevens squad
Gloucester wing James Bailey
England Sevens coach Mike Friday has named Gloucester wing James Bailey and Northampton's Andy Vilk in his 12-man squad for the IRB Wellington Sevens.

The pair are the only new caps in the squad for the 4-5 February event.

Youngsters Ollie Phillips and Ben Russell are also in but Neil Starling was forced out by injury and replaced by Leicester's Dan Hipkiss.

England go into the third event of the season as joint series leaders together with New Zealand and Fiji.

"England's position as joint leaders means that all three teams will be looking for points in Wellington," said Friday.

"This season is all about consistency for England, and we need strong performances in both Wellington and Los Angeles to give us an advantage over the other countries going into the second half of the series."

Friday's men have been given a tough draw and should face either New Zealand or Fiji in an early knockout round.

They have been grouped together with Samoa, Canada and Niue, while tournament favourites New Zealand have been paired in a pool with Fiji.

England beat Fiji 26-21 to win the Dubai Sevens last month while New Zealand overcame the same opponents on their way to claiming the last event in South Africa.

England squad:

S Amor (Gloucester, capt), G Appleford (London Irish), J Bailey (Gloucester), J Brooks (Wasps), B Gollings (unattached), O Phillips (Newcastle), P Richards (Wasps), T Roques (London Irish), B Russell (Saracens), D Hipkiss (Leicester), R Thirlby (Penzance & Newlyn), A Vilk (Northampton).
