Varndell has also been called into the England senior squad this week |
Leicester wing Tom Varndell has won his first England Sevens call-up for the opening two legs of the IRB Series in Dubai and George, South Africa. The 20-year-old, the leading try-scorer in the Premiership, has also been included in the England senior squad for the game with Samoa this weekend.
Gloucester's Luke Narraway, Ben Foden of Sale and Worcester's Jonny Hylton are the other new caps.
IRB Sevens player of the year Simon Amor retains the captaincy.
England depart on Sunday for the Dubai leg which begins on 1 December.
If Varndell plays against Samoa on Saturday and then features for Mike Friday's team in Dubai, the Tigers star will become the first player to make two different England debuts within a week.
"His call-up to the senior squad is a reflection of the outstanding season he is having," said coach Friday.
"I am looking forward to seeing how he copes with the intensity of international sevens.
"Tom is incredibly quick and is the leading try scorer in the Guinness Premiership. We call him the racehorse as he is tall, slim and very fast just like Red Rum."
England are seeded third for both tournaments and have been drawn with Kenya, Uganda and Australia in Dubai.
England won the Dubai Sevens last year but ended up third behind winners New Zealand and second-placed Fiji in the overall standings.
"This really is an exciting, raw team for England," added Friday.
"We have three uncapped players and four who have only played a handful of tournaments but I am sure they will rise to the challenge.
"We have some really quick players in the squad and I am pleased that several players will earn their first caps in these opening two tournaments."
The South Africa Sevens is in George and begins on 9 December.
England squad for Dubai and George Sevens: S Amor (capt), B Foden, B Gollings, J Hylton, W Matthews, N Mordt, L Narraway, H Paul, BT Russell, M Tait, T Varndell, A Vilk.
