It was an improved performance after their disappointing first Test 33-8 defeat against the Black Ferns.

England led 8-3 when Saracens lock Maggie Alphonsi dived over before Hannah Myers, Piki Solomon and full-back Amiria Marsh hit back for NZ.

Wasps centre Amy Turner scored England's second to cut the deficit.

"We are pleased with this performance," said coach Geoff Richards.

"We worked hard during the week and we have fixed some of the things that let us down first time around.

"We still have a long way to go but today was certainly a step up. We have come a long way in four days so we are pleased."

Jed Rowlands, the Black Ferns head coach, added: "Any win over a team like England is a good one.

"I think in the second-half our forwards played very well but we were let down in the backs. England were definitely on top in the second-half."
