World champions New Zealand swept aside England Women 33-8 at Auckland's Eden Park on Saturday. The English were let down by poor defence and a lack of attacking opportunities, while the Black Ferns ran in a total of five tries.
The hosts coasted to an 18-3 half-time lead, with Karen Andrew kicking England's sole points.
New Zealand added two more tries in the second half, while Vanessa Gray got a consolation score in the 75th minute.
England head coach Geoff Richards said: "We just didn't front up. Our defence was poor and our line-out wasn't much better.
"New Zealand have some talented players as do England, but they seemed to take to the field more determined to win.
"We have another test against the Black Ferns in Hamilton in four days time and, with that in mind, we will look at the tapes to see where we went wrong and what we can do to fix this result."
