Henry Paul and James Simpson-Daniel played starring roles as Gloucester recorded their second successive Heineken Cup win to top Pool Five.

Centre Paul amassed 24 points, while speedster Simpson-Daniel grabbed two tries in three second-half minutes to end the game as a contest.

Despite the win, Gloucester and England suffered a potential setback when Phil Vickery was substituted with a groin injury.

The England prop is due to captain an England XV against the New Zealand Barbarians at Twickenham next weekend.

"We won't know for the next couple of days the extent of the injury, but he is in a lot of pain at the moment," said Gloucester coach Dean Ryan.

Vickery is one of just five members of England's World Cup starting team named by head coach Clive Woodward in a 22-man squad on Friday.

If he is forced to withdraw, it will be another setback for a match already devoid of World Cup stars such as Jonny Wilkinson, Martin Johnson and Lawrence Dallaglio.

Gloucester's 40-point second-half display was frequently exhilarating and included tries from Paul and lock Adam Eustace as well as Simpson-Daniel's brace.

Wing Marcel Garvey added a fifth eight minutes from time to secure a bonus point, before Samoa World Cup centre Terry Fanolua completed the rout.

Bourgoin had no answer to the home side's pace and invention, and the match proved a disappointing Kingsholm return for former Gloucester rugby director Philippe Saint-Andre.

His French club were outgunned in every phase of play and could only manage one try, from France World Cup flanker Sebastien Chabal.

Alexandre Peclier finished the game with one conversion and two penalties.
