Cornish Pirates ran out 16-6 winners in their first victory against Bristol in six games on Sunday. The first half was nip and tuck as both sides were restricted to a single penalty each with Rob Cook for Pirates and Bristol's Adrian Jarvis on target. The Cornish club pushed ahead after the interval when fly-half Cook landed two more penalties and Drew Locke went over deep in stoppage time under the posts. Bristol could only muster a second Jarvis penalty in reply. Pirates' performance manager, Chris Stirling said: "That was an example of winter rugby, there was a lot of endeavour to play with a bit of enjoyment, but it was a tough game. "I have to say that was probably the best set-piece performance that I've seen the Pirates put on in a few years. "It's something that the guys have worked really hard on and to see them get that result is really pleasing." The win takes the Pirates to third in The Championship table, having won 10 of their 14 games, above London Welsh on points difference.
