Saracens have had a mass clear-out of players in the wake of their spate of new signings. The 11 players being released include hooker Robbie Russell, full-back Adryan Winnan, league recruit Nathan McAvoy and long-serving flanker Tony Roques.
Meanwhile, lock Craig Yandell is to retire from professional rugby.
Saracens have recently made six new signings: Dan Scarbrough, Hugh Vyvyan, Alex Sanderson, Iain Fullarton, Kevin Yates and Matt Cairns.
Saracens head coach Rod Kafer said there were four reasons for letting go the players:
"(One) They do not fit into our plans as we move forward, meaning we are looking at a different type of player for that position.
"(Two) It is a business decision where a choice is made between players in the same position based on cost.
"(Three) The risk, either of injury or of not reaching the players' potential, is too great and the club decides to release a player prior to the completion of their contract.
"(Four) We simply believe we have recruited a better player."
