Davies is now in his second season coaching the Pirates |
Cornish Pirates forwards coach Ian Davies says the club will do everything they can to make the knockout stages of the British & Irish Cup. The Pirates, who are defending champions, must get two points at Worcester to avoid dropping out of the competition in the group stages. Davies told BBC Cornwall: "There's two trophies to win as a rugby player in this league and this is one of them. "We worked hard to win it last year and we'd love to keep it." A narrow 34-32 defeat away at Newport in January has left the Pirates two points behind Pool A leaders Leinster with just one game remaining. Davies continued: "We could have made life a lot easier for ourselves by winning at Newport, but we haven't done that so we made a rod for our back and we've got to work through it. "If we get four points on Saturday then we win the pool which gives us a home quarter-final which is important because I don't think anybody likes coming to Penzance." Fly-half Johnny Bentley is rested for the clash, with number eight Blair Cowan also ruled out with a knee injury.
