British & Irish Cup: Cornish Pirates 54-31 Currie

Chris Stirling
Chris Stirling led the Pirates to victory in the British & Irish Cup last season

Cornish Pirates ran in eight tries as they started their defence of the British & Irish Cup with a comprehensive win over Currie.

Winger Rhodri McAtee crossed twice, with Wes Davies, Rob Elloway, Matt Hoopper, Jonny Bentley, Grant Pointer and Blair Cowan the other scorers.

Ryan Wilson, Matt Scott and Tom Brown were the scorers for Currie, who had kept the score to 23-14 at half-time.

But the Pirates opened up after the break, running in five tries.

The Pirates beat Munster in the first-ever British & Irish Cup final last May. And they carried on from where they left off with another stylish display in Penzance.

Rob Cook kicked two penalties and two conversions, while replacement fly-half Bentley also slotted over two conversions.

Hayden Abercrombie kicked two conversions and four penalties for the visitors.
