Crooks' side have racked up a healthy 401 points in 12 matches this season |
Cambridge boss Bob Crooks says young pair Ben Spencer and James Ingle can set National One alight this term. Scrum-half Spencer, 18, and on-loan Northampton number eight Ingle, 20, impressed in Saturday's win at Redruth. "Ben's a star. He's going to be a very good rugby player," Crooks told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. "And I'm really pleased with James Ingle. "I think, if we get them two working in tandem, oh my God, the pace at the back of that scrum." Since arriving from Exeter Chiefs this summer, Spencer has turned heads in the third tier of English rugby, both with his handling and with the boot. He added to his tally for the season by kicking two penalties and two conversions in the weekend win in Cornwall as Cambridge made it eight victories in nine games with the 32-20 defeat of Redruth. That helped the division's top scorers stay second in National One, just five points adrift of leaders Barking. Otley, who sit 13th after just three wins all campaign, are this Saturday's visitors to Wests Renault Park. Crooks will assess the fitness of injured trio Jaco Du Toit, Ben Hunter and Dan Mugford. "There's bangs and bruises coming on," he said. "But we'll just have to rest the boys and look after them. "We should have Mugford back next week and that will change what we do."
