Cambridge director of rugby Bob Crooks has called on fans to donate money to help secure the club's future.

The National One outfit need to raise £225,000 to fend off a winding-up petition which is due to be heard in the High Court in November.

Crooks told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We've taken a bash but you're not going to put us down, we're going to keep fighting.

"Applause is great but we need financial support as well."

While the club fights the debt owed to HM Revenue and Customs off the pitch, they have showed no signs of slipping up on the field.

If we think of ourselves as a good side, and we do, the sign of that is going to Launceston and winning

Saturday's 41-11 win at home to Wharfedale was the Blood and Sand's fifth victory in seven league games and keeps them second in the table and level on points with leaders Barking.

On Saturday Cambridge go to bottom-of-the-table Launceston, who are without a point after being docked 20 points for going into voluntary liquidation before the season began, and Crooks is hoping his men can continue to prove their credentials.

"If we think of ourselves as a good side, and we do, the sign of that is going to Launceston and winning," he said.

"If we get a result down there you're going to start considering us a good side.

"We've got a lot of potential at the moment but we've got have a little bit more pressure and be under a bit more duress."
