Cambridge focused on rugby, says Tom Wheatcroft

Cambridge utility back Tom Wheatcroft says his side are managing to put the club's financial problems to one side.

On Saturday they beat Coventry 43-22 in a National One clash despite being told they would not be paid for September.

Wheatcroft, 21, told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "It's all happening off the pitch but Foxy [captain Darren Fox] had a chat with us before hand.

"He said 'forget everything off the park, just do what we do best, play rugby and win games'."

The club faces a winding-up order from HM Revenue and Customs in November but results on the field have been in stark contrast to events off it.

Cambridge brushed aside Coventry at Wests Renault Park to maintain their 100% home record.

We try to run from our own line, that's the way Crooksy wants us to play, I think it's a great way to play

The Blood and Sand head to Blaydon at the weekend with a return of one win, one draw and one defeat on their travels.

Crooks has demanded to see running rugby from his side and former Worcester Warrior Wheatcroft insists they will continue to satisfy the boss.

"It's good for supporters to watch," he said.

"We try to run from our own line, that's the way Crooksy wants us to play, I think it's a great way to play.

"Mistakes do happen and that's the way it goes but we love the way we play."
