Hunter joined Cambridge from El Salvador in 2008 |
Scrum-half Danny Hunter believes Cambridge have assembled a squad capable of winning National One. Despite a strong start to the new season, coach Bob Crooks has been playing down expectations following summer budget cuts. Hunter told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We're all rugby players, one to 15 we can all play rugby, there's no one who has just one role. "Nobody is just there for scrummaging or line-outs, we're all great players." Cambridge won their opening two matches, but suffered a 28-16 defeat at Barking last Saturday. They head to Macclesfield this weekend with Hunter confident they can bounce straight back. | 606: DEBATE |
"We just need to concentrate on one match at a time and keep performing," he said. "Performance is huge for us because if we get the performance right the results will come." The club's playing budget has been reduced over the summer, but the likes of lock Ien Ascroft-Leigh and wing Jaco du Toit have come on board. Hunter has 18-year-old Exeter Chiefs academy product Ben Spencer pushing for his place. "Ben has come in and is a really hot prospect so it puts pressure on myself, but the competition also makes you excel," he said.
