Fly-half Dan Mugford revels in Cambridge unity

Cambridge fly-half Dan Mugford has put his side's early season form down to a togetherness at the club.

The National One outfit have secured two wins out of two this season with the 18-year-old taking a starring role.

Mugford told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Everyone's just so smiley and enthusiastic about how we want to play.

"The way we're playing on the pitch, I think that's transferred off the pitch. Everyone's really happy and enjoying what we're doing here."

Mugford made the switch from Exeter Chief's academy this summer, along with Ben Spencer, swapping the depths of an Aviva Premiership squad for the prospect of a starting position in England's third tier.

The real masterstroke could be the acquisition of 18-year-old half-back pairing Ben Spencer and Dan Mugford from the Exeter Chiefs academy

"Exeter Chiefs moved up to Sandy Park and the facilities are obviously great there working with the academy," he added.

"Here there's a lot more of a tighter feel in the team. Being in the academy I was up with the first team a little bit but here everyone's just so helpful."

Mugford announced himself on the scene on Saturday with a man of the match performance in the 60-12 victory over Cinderford, grabbing a try in the process.

That followed on from an opening day success at Sedgley Park, putting the side in good stead for this weekend's visit to Barking.

"I've seen they've started their season well, beating London Scottish last week, which was a really good result," Mugford continued.

"I think it's going to be a tough test for us, hopefully we can come out on top. We're doing everything we can to move on our game from the last two weeks."
