Vagabonds ladies were beaten at home on Saturday for the first time since entering the UK league system, more than two years ago.

The Manx side, who have won back-to-back promotions, lost 21-5 to a strong Sheffield side in RFUW Championship North Two.

Despite his side losing both their opening fixtures, coach Darrin Cook is pleased with progress.

"It will take time to adjust to this level but we are making good progress."

The Manx side are now playing two leagues below the National Premiership.

Vagabonds opened the scoring after just 10 minutes through Cassie Watterson, but Sheffield retaliated to lead 7-5 at half-time.

In the second-half, the visitors added two further tries without reply to seal the win.

Vagabonds captain Fran Hunt was pleased with the team performance and the addition of two new faces to the line-up.

"This is only our second game of the season, where most teams have played four or five games.

"It was a much better performance than our first game and I'm convinced we will start winning again soon.

"Both Erica (Stephenson) and Susan (Yule) played great on their debuts and added a lot of pace to the team."

The Manx side will now travel to Darlington to face the league leaders on the 27 November.
