Alex Davidson says his Luctonians side can get better

Luctonians director of rugby Alex Davidson says there is much more to come from his side as they are still adjusting to National League Two North.

Davidson has been pleased with the way the players have stepped up to the higher level this season.

"From looking back at DVDs, I think we are currently playing at about 60% of our potential," Davidson told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"So to get results and still have 40% in reserve is great for our future."

Lucs go into the weekend home match against Hull with a record of three wins from their opening four games but Davidson knows there are tougher tests to come.

"Hull have a couple of South Sea Islanders in their team, which will be a new experience for a lot of our players," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"It will be interesting to see how they play the game differently with their strong running, and we need to not allow them space.

"Hull have had an indifferent season so far although they were fancied as one of the favourites before the season.

"But they went to Leicester Lions a couple of weeks ago and lost 40-3, so that might prove that they don't travel that well," he added.

Luctonians' relative remoteness has brought Davidson problems when it came to player recruitment, he says, but he believes it can work to their advantage as teams will have an extra hour's journey off the end of the motorway.

"I wanted to make this place a fortress and then we turned round and lost the opening game," he said.

"But since then we had a good win against Nuneaton here who were fancied in this league and the league above in recent years.

"Now Hull have got to make that long trip and I think it will make a difference - a lot of friends have told me that often teams in this league don't travel well."
