Cornish Pirates were in impressive form on Sunday as they beat London Welsh in a fiery encounter at the Mennaye Field. In a tight first-half the Pirates edged into a narrow 6-3 lead thanks to two Rob Cook penalties, with Gordon Ross kicking the point for Welsh. Three more penalties put the Pirates 15-3 in front, as Welsh were reduced to 14 men when Mike Powell was sin binned. Then with four minutes remaining, winger Rhodri McAtee scored a superb individual try to wrap up victory. The wide-man picked up the ball in his own half, running 70 metres to touch down, with Cook duly converting.
