Launceston Rugby Football Club Limited have announced they have gone into voluntary liquidation.

The National One side, known as the Cornish All Blacks, has been struggling financially for some time.

Earlier this year falling gate receipts and a drop in sponsorship led to players taking a wage cut.

A statement on the club website said it had not succeeded in coming to an agreement with its major creditor, Her Majesty's Customs and Revenue.

The club took the step of going into voluntary liquidation to avoid being put into receivership.

Launceston's president, Jim O'Hara, told BBC Cornwall that the club has started a new company, Launceston Rugby Club Limited, which should allow the Cornish All Blacks to continue playing next season.

O'Hara said: "We almost most certainly will play next season but we have to follow the RFU's guidelines and regulations.

"The new company has to submit a three-year business plan which will be scrutinised by the RFU and the RFU have to make a judgement on how sound the business plan is.

"The RFU will then make a decision on whether they will accept that request from us, and also decide whether or not to take any punitive action against us."

Launceston were founded in 1948 and have been at their Polson Bridge ground since 1970.
