Bristol hooker Ross Johnston has agreed a new one-year deal with the Championship club.

The 24-year-old, who moved from Cardiff at the start of least season, suffered a broken leg during Bristol's play-off match against Bedford in April.

"I'm extremely proud and pleased to have committed another season to Bristol Rugby," said Johnston.

"I was obviously devastated to have sustained a injury that kept me out of the squad in the semi and final."

Welshman Johnston is looking forward to helping Bristol overcome the disappointment of losing the play-off decider to Exeter Chiefs.

Several key players have already left the club during the summer.

"Looking on, I feel that, with the players who have stayed, we can be competitive in the 2010-11 season," he added.

"I'm looking forward to hopefully a successful year."

Bristol head coach Paul Hull is delighted that Johnston is staying.

He said: "Losing Ross in the play-offs was a major blow in the final stages of the campaign.

"His line-out throwing, ball-carrying ability and defensive work shown throughout the season have made him an integral part of the team."
