Worcester Warriors' Alex Crockett wants a fresh start

Worcester Warriors' new signing Alex Crockett is keen to make a fresh start at Sixways.

Crockett left Bath after receiving a nine-month suspension for missing two drugs tests.

"It was tough last summer as it was all a bit of a shock and a misunderstanding but it was weird as I had played all my professional career at Bath," he said.

"But sometimes a change can be really good and I just can't wait to get started with Worcester."

Crockett has joined the Warriors on a two-year deal following a brief spell with Bristol.

He held talks with Mike Ruddock before the former Wales Grand Slam winning coach resigned following the club's relegation from the Premiership.

But Crockett told BBC Hereford and Worcester he was sold on what Sixways had to offer and was more than happy to join the club under new coach Richard Hill.

"I have known Richard a while but have never actually worked under him," he said.

I am looking forward to the future with the club as it could be a really big club that achieves things

"But I have had a chat with a few of the Bristol players who know him very well and they say he is a very good coach and he obviously achieved a lot when he was there.

"They were competing with and beating clubs like Stade Francais during his time there.

"So he knows how to build a team to get them out of the Championship and into European rugby which is the goal for Worcester."

Crockett is determined to make the most of his opportunity at the Warriors and is confident the club can return to the top flight at the first time of asking.

"I'm really excited about starting and looking forward to the future with the club as it could be a really big club that achieves things," he continued.

"Obviously I would have preferred it if they could have stayed in the Premiership and we could have built from there.

"But you look at clubs like Northampton and Harlequins that have gone down and they have almost turned a negative into a positive.

"They seem to have got their structures off the field a lot stronger and now they are blossoming in the Premiership."
