Bristol hooker Ross Johnston ruled out with broken leg

Johnston is hopeful of returning to action for Bedford next season

Bristol hooker Ross Johnston will miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken leg.

The 24-year-old was stretchered off during last Sunday's 41-32 Championship play-off victory over Bedford.

Johnston has undergone surgery and, with David Blaney also suffering from a groin problem, Bristol's only available hooker is 20-year-old Ollie Hayes.

Bristol head coach Paul Hull told BBC Radio Bristol: "Ross is obviously devastated about this, as are we."

He added: "It was a bit of a nasty injury. You could tell that by his response on the pitch - he was in agony.

But Hull said he was confident that the hooker would be available for the start of next season.

"The surgery went very well. They tied up some ligament damage in his ankle as well as fixing the broken fibula.

"He is in good spirits now and looking forward to getting fit again for the start of next season."
