Nottingham Rugby picked up their second win in the British and Irish Cup with a 14-3 victory over Welsh side Neath. The Green and Whites staggered to a win after tries from Tim Usasz and Donald Blake put them second in group B. Director of rugby Glenn Delaney told BBC Radio Nottingham: "We didn't put our normal flow and tempo on the game. "When your playing a side like Neath in a game where it was an old-fashioned battle, you've got to move them around to create opportunities." The Green and Whites trailed by three points until six minutes from the end of normal time but two converted tries ensured the victory at Meadow Lane. | We managed two scores but we're a team that wants to be playing with the ball and moving it around Nottingham director of rugby Glenn Delaney |
Nottingham achieved very little momentum in the first half and in reality spent most of the first period rebuffing wave after wave of Neath attacks. Neath carried the ball with far more vigour and looked to keep the ball alive and in comparison the few attacks Nottingham mounted lacked creativity or penetration. More worryingly for Delaney was perhaps Nottingham's lack of enthusiasm in attack and the back line's over eagerness to kick the ball and relinquish possession. "We're trying not to kick. That's our modus operandi. We don't want to be a team that kicks the ball away," added Delaney. "We managed two scores but we're a team that wants to be playing with the ball and moving it around. "Unfortunately we're coming into December and sometimes you've got to take a more pragmatic view on these things."
