Mann has played in the NHL with Boston and Nashville
Nottingham Panthers are third in the Elite League following a 2-1 victory over the Cardiff Devils on Sunday.
Panthers now trail leaders Coventry by two points and the Blaze have four games in hand.
Forward Cameron Mann told BBC Radio Nottingham: "After last weekend losing to Belfast this was a big game for us.
"It was a hard-fought win and we worked hard to get it. We have to continue to work hard and do the little things and that's going to make us successful."
It was Mann who levelled the scores for the Panthers after Phil Hill had given the visitors the lead early in the second period.
Great vision by Kevin Bergin set up Corey Neilson fresh out the penalty box. The player-coach fed the puck to David Clarke and the GB international timed his pass to perfection as Mann drove the net.
Panthers winning goal came two minutes later thanks to a neat finish from Sean McAslan with his 17th goal of the season.
Netminder Kevin St Pierre faced 32 shots and was only beaten by Hill's deflected powerplay strike.
"He [St Pierre] has been there for us all year," added Mann. "There have been times when we left him out to dry and he has been there for us, so it was nice to get the win for him."
