Cambridge cut gap in National One

James Shanahan
Shanahan saw his side bounce back from last Saturday's defeat to Otley.

Cambridge closed the gap on National One leaders Esher with a 22-8 victory over Launceston on Saturday.

They are now just seven points off top spot and travel to Esher next weekend.

Coach James Shanahan told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I was really happy with the first half as we stuck to our game plan.

"In the second half Launceston came at us guns blazing, but overall I'm happy with the result even though we didn't get the bonus point."

Esher slipped up at Sedgley Park, allowing Cambridge to close the gap at the top of National One.

But Shanahan admits they will have to work hard if they are to take anything off the league leaders in next week's game.

"We've got nothing to lose, as nobody will be backing us except our 20 guys in red and Bob Crooks on the sidelines."
