North Walsham in action in their win against Sutton and Epsom |
Diss and North Walsham face each other in a National League clash for the first time on Saturday at Mackenders. The two Norfolk teams won their opening games of the season, then lost out heavily last weekend. North Walsham coach Dave Smith told BBC Radio Norfolk their 13-43 defeat to Jersey, and Diss' 34-14 loss at Bracknell, will not be dwelled upon. "These matches will be forgotten by Saturday, it's one of the biggest games in Norfolk for a long time," he said. While Diss have home advantage for the game, Smith thinks there'll be a strong travelling contingent cheering the Vikings on. "I'd like to think so, Walsham fans follow us through hail, rain and sleet, so yeah, it'll be a big game for the county, we're all really looking forward to it," he said. North Walsham have the slight edge over Diss in the League table, having enjoyed a bigger winning margin on the opening day of the season. It also seems that the loss at League favourites Bracknell took it's toll physically, with former Walsham players Tim Groom and Ian Thorpe among a number of absentees.
