Cornish Pirates have signed scrum-half Ben Jones on a short term deal following an injury to their first choice number nine Gavin Cattle. Cattle picked up a knee injury during Sunday's 57-24 home defeat of Moseley. Jones, 26, was playing for Premiership side Worcester Warriors last season, but left at the end of the campaign. He will not be in the Pirates squad against Doncaster on Friday, with either Rhodri McAtee or Jimmy Moore likely to play at scrum-half. Jones, who has also played for Northampton, Doncaster and the England Sevens team, is expected to be in the squad for the game against Coventry on 27 September. Pirates chief executive Rod Coward is confident he will be able to fill the breach left by Cattle's injury. He said: "Ben Jones is a proven quality player and I was delighted when he agreed to join us at such short notice. "I have no doubt that he will prove a very able replacement during Gavin Cattle's temporary absence."
