Exeter Chiefs start their pre-season campaign at home to Premiership side Sale Sharks on Saturday.

The Sharks have bolstered their squad during the summer, bringing in World Cup-winning winger Ben Cohen from French side Brive.

Kingsley Jones, Sale's director of rugby, said they are expecting Chiefs to provide a hard encounter.

"We've got a lot of respect for Chiefs and will have to work really hard to get a result at Sandy Park," he said.

Sale ended the 2008/09 Premiership season in fifth place, which was enough to qualify for the Heineken Cup next season.

Chiefs captain Alan Miller has been ruled out of the clash, after picking up a cheekbone injury during a practice session against Launceston last week.
