Vagas' victory put them 11 points clear at the top of the table |
Vagabonds Ladies completed their away fixtures in North West Division Two on Saturday with a devastating 112-10 victory over Eccles. Darrin Cook's side now top the division by 11 points after guaranteeing their promotion against Rossendale last week. Cook said: "Saturday was the reward for a season of hard work and dedication." The icing on the cake came when a watching Cheshire County scout selected seven of the Vagas team to join up with the Cheshire squad later in the year. Cook added: "The selection of seven of the ladies to the Cheshire squad is a richly deserved reward for all of their efforts." The Manx side led 62-0 at half-time with captain Fran Hunt crossing the Eccles line no fewer than four times. Abi Corkish (2), Lizzie Lennon, Cat Beswick, Amoure Ferreira and Chantal Johnson also picked up scores in the first period with Beswick's reliable boot adding six conversions. In the second-half Cook rang the changes, bringing on all of his available substitutes . | The performance at Eccles was one of the best this season, everyone contributed to a fantastic team effort and the result reflects the improvements the team has made this year |
This seemed to make little difference however as impressive newcomer Claire Muskett (2), Hunt (2), Beckley (3) and Lennon all added to the growing total. Beswick claimed two conversions as did Beckley and Corkish weighing in with one of her own. Eccles, to their credit, never gave up and claimed a couple of scores as some recompense for what must have been a dispiriting afternoon. Vagabonds captain Fran Hunt said: "The performance at Eccles was one of the best this season, everyone contributed to a fantastic team effort and the result reflects the improvements the team has made this year." Vagas' final home game of the season is against Northwich on 3 May
