Baxter hints at top job interest

Rob Baxter
Baxter hopes performances on the field will stand him in good stead

Exeter Chiefs coach Rob Baxter has not ruled himself out of applying for the club's vacant director of rugby job.

Baxter was part of Pete Drewett's coaching staff and is still at the club after Drewett and assistant Paul Larkin were sacked last week.

And he failed to rule out applying for Drewett's job when asked by BBC Devon.

"I'm interested in any job at Exeter Rugby Club. I'm not going to hide the fact that I love what I'm doing at the moment," he said.

"It's been great to do some different things and lead some different areas of the coaching that I probably haven't done for quite a while," he added.

And he said that the best thing he can do to impress the top brass at the club is to help the side to keep winning matches.

"The proof of the pudding is in the eating," he continued.

"If the players go out and they perform well and they look energetic and some of the things they do look high-quality and well prepared then that holds me in good stead.

"I rely completely on what the players do.

"If they're well prepared and enthusiastic about what we're doing and they feel that we're picking the right game plan and doing the right things then their performance will show my worth," he added.
