Torquay United moved eight points behind Burton Albion at the top of the Blue Square Premier following an impressive win over their title rivals.
Danny Stevens' 25-yard shot secured the points against 10-man Albion, who had striker Greg Pearson sent off for a bad foul on Tim Sills in the first half.
Michael Simpson had a chance to level but his effort was deflected wide and Mark Byrne flashed the ball over.
But Torquay held on to go second and have a game in hand on the Brewers.
