Albion win was essential - Owen

James Owen and his team-mates have been asked to take a pay cut

Plymouth Albion hooker James Owen said Saturday's 23-15 win over Otley was "essential" for the cash-strapped side.

Last week Albion's players were asked to take a pay cut as the global financial crisis hit Brickfields.

"It was essential to come out and get that victory for the club and for the fans," Owen told BBC Radio Devon.

"They came out in big numbers to support us after a tricky week off the field, it wasn't champagne rugby in the second half but we ground out a win."
