Former captain Kern Yates scored a try, but it was not enough |
A last-gasp drop goal condemned Jersey to a narrow defeat on their trip to Bishop's Stortford. Leading 11-0 at half time and 16-15 with only seconds to go, thanks to tries from Graham Bell and Kern Yates, Jersey looked set to take the points. But, from the last play of the game, the home side turned over a scrum near their own line, ran the ball upfield and dropped the winning goal. The defeat saw Jersey slip from third to fifth in London One. Jersey coach Ben Harvey told BBC Jersey he was disappointed. "It was a big big game and to come away with a win would have kept us in touch with the top two. Unfortunately it's not the case - we failed," he said. Jersey now face third-placed Hertford at home next weekend in a match that is vital if then want to stay close to the top two sides Shelford and Barnes.
