Cornwall missed out on glory when they were beaten 25-11 by Northumberland in the County Championship Shield final at Twickenham. They were outscored by four tries to one, the sole Cornish reply coming from Redruth's Paul Thirlby. The Duchy were guaranteed promotion back into the top tier of county rugby - but without any silverware. Northumberland looked the sharper of the two teams, proving particularly dominant up front.
