Cornwall made the County Championship Shield final with an emphatic 43-0 win over Eastern Counties at Camborne. Redruth full-back Paul Thirlby scored two of their six tries, with Matt Jess, Sam Hocking, Ben Hilton and Lewis Vinnicombe all crossing too. Launceston's Mark Scrivener kicked 13 points at the Recreation Ground. As well as contesting the Twickenham final on 1 June against Northumberland (1000 BST), the Duchy are promoted to play in next year's Bill Beaumont Cup. Having started the day two points behind Eastern Counties in County Championship Shield South, there was still a slight danger that Cornwall could be caught by Hertfordshire. But the size of Cornwall's victory meant that their rivals would have needed to have won by 101 points - and they could manage only a 42-3 victory over Oxfordshire.
