Cornwall suffered a narrow defeat at Hertfordshire in the County Shield as they failed to build on last weekend's 66-8 win over Oxfordshire.

The Black & Golds found the hosts a far tougher proposition, as they came down from the Championship last season.

Despite tries from Launceston trio Mark Scrivener, Ryan Westren and Matt Jess (2), it was not enough for victory.

The Cornish side now have to beat Eastern Counties at Camborne next Saturday to reach the Twickenham final.
