Cornwall, hoping to gain promotion from the County Shield, started their group games by thrashing Oxfordshire 66-8.

The Duchy, in the secpmd tier of county rugby for the second year running, plundered 11 tries, capped by a treble for Redruth wing Lewis Vinnicombe.

Five tries came in the first period and six in the second at Redruth as Cornwall battered the visitors.

Captain Josh Lord said: "We combined really well, as nearly all the team came from just three clubs."
