Three South West players have been named in the England Counties rugby squad to tour USA and Canada in June.

Cornish All Blacks right wing Matt Jess, Plymouth Albion duo flanker Mike Denbee and prop Tim Mathias have been chosen for the squad of 26 players.

Jess was Launceston's top try scorer last season.

England Counties new team manager Danny Hodgson will now be hoping Jess and Mathias will come through their respective county finals uninjured.

"There is always a concern when we have matches so close to departure time," he said.

"We have contingency plans with lads on stand-by sitting on their suitcases and other players in reserve.

"Obviously we are hoping that all goes well, but there is always a risk."

The England Counties side will play two matches in New York and one in Chatham in Canada during their tour from 2-16 June.
