Saracens centre Claire Allan scored a hat-trick |
Defending champions England began their Women's Six Nations campaign in style as they swept to a 55-0 win over Wales. Gary Street's side ran in nine tries with Saracens centre Claire Allan claiming a hat-trick.
Charlotte Barras, Catherine Spencer, Sarah Hunter, Michaela Staniford, Jane Leonard and Katherine Merchant also crossed the try-line at Sunbury.
"Wales talked up what they were going to do to us all week whereas we did our talking on the pitch," said Street.
"We are very pleased with this performance. It's a great way to start the Six Nations.
"We have now played seven games out of eight without conceding a single point and I think that speaks volumes about our defence while our attack is also firing on all cylinders with nine tries.
"The next game is against Italy away and that is going to be a tough match. They gave us a hard game at Twickenham a year ago in this championship and we will be expecting more of the same on Saturday in Rome."
