James Stosic joined Wakefield Trinity Wildcats from Gold Coast Titans |
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have released prop James Stosic midway through a two-year contract. The New Zealander, 28, was signed on the understanding that after the first year of his two-year deal he would obtain a Macedonian passport. However, he failed in his attempt and has now been released by the club. Wakefield coach John Kear said: "We'd like to thank James for his hard work on behalf of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and wish him well for his career." Before Monday's decision, Kear had explained the position the Super League club were in. "Our overseas quota positions are already filled by Darryl Millard, Ben Jeffries, Glenn Morrison, Shane Tronc and Sam Obst, so we do not have any more places available," said the former England coach. "There are no problems between the club and James. We both knew what was required for him to remain with the club. "When James joined it was quite clear that he had to have a passport that would remove him from the existing quota."
